Counseling for Couples and Families
Sara Phillips, MS, LCMFT
I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT) in the state of Maryland (LCM319), a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT), and a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). I have a bachelor's degree from Messiah College in Family Studies and a master's degree from the University of Maryland in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I have been in private practice in Ellicott City since 2007, and my practice is dedicated to couples therapy. I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, an empirically validated approach to helping couples reduce relationship distress and create more secure attachment bonds. I am also a certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy Supervisor. You can learn more about EFT by visiting The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy at www.iceeft.com.
I have worked with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings, including the University of Maryland's Family Service Center, Greenbelt CARES crisis counseling services, Greenbelt CARES family therapy clinic, and Access Counseling Services of Columbia, where I provided marriage counseling and family therapy. I am also trained in child-centered play therapy and have been a parent trainer for the Strengthening Families program, as well as a leader for social skills groups for children.
I am passionate about working with couples to help them learn new patterns of interaction, create more intimate bonds and secure attachment, and strengthen relationships.
